Festival & Events in Selangor

In January-February, the Hindus in Penang celebrate Thaipusam.

The Chinese New Year is a 15-day festival celebrated in January-February. The people of the Chinese community celebrate this festival with lots of enthusiasm. 

In March, Maulidur Rasul is held to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. Religious festivals and prayer meetings are conducted to pay tribute to the prophet. 

The exciting Selangor Water Festival is held in April. During the festival, kayaking, underwater treasure hunts, sandcastle building, boat racing and ‘catch the duck’ contests are held. 

The birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha are celebrated on Wesak Daywhich is held in May. During this festival, devotees visit the temple before dawn and offer flowers, joss sticks and candles thus signifying that just like flowers wither, joss sticks and candles burn away, life too is temporary. 

September is the time to relish moon cakes. Mooncake Festival is held to commemorate the triumph of Chinese over Mongol Yuan Dynasty. Moon cakes are prepared in different flavours, during this festival. 

To mark the end of Ramadan, Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival is held. Special delicacies are prepared during this festival. December is the time for Christmas celebrations, and New Year.
